Apple’s March 7 Event Complete Coverage: New iPad, Apple TV and iOS 5 Updates

Several hours ago Apple dropped a huge press conference in San Francisco for making three major announcements: the launch of so much rumored and awaited iPad, highly expected Apple TV and some major updates with the current iOS.

New Apple TV features 1080p programming comprising iTunes movies and TV shows, Netflix, Vimeo, photos and more, and all in HD! With iTunes in the Cloud, users can get hands on their favorite movies and TV shows right from the iTunes Store instantly, enjoying them in HD. Despite the huge speed and simplicity, the new Apple TV features humbler, advanced user interface making it easier than ever to access your purchased movies, TV shows and music with iTunes Match right from iCloud. Streaming or mirroring your favorite content from the rest of iDevices including iPad or iPhone is also available. On the other hand, you can buy movies and TV shows on Apple TV and watch them on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC too, with incredibly high speed, no matter which device you choose to use.

Apple TV will be available on March 16th for a suggested retail price of $99 (US) through the Apple online store, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers and requires iTunes 10.5 or later, 802.11g/n Wi-Fi network or Ethernet network, a broadband Internet connection and a HD TV capable of 1080p or 720p and an HDMI cable that is sold separately.

Now let’s move on to iLife apps for iOS. To complete this bundle, Apple introduced iPhoto for iPad and iPhone and major updates to iMovie and GarageBand. The following improvements were made:

Upcoming iOS 5.1 Secret Features

The recent reports claim that Apple has finalized quality assurance examination on iOS 5.1 and will announce it together with the iPad 3 in just several hours’ time. The new version of iOS is said to comprise an augmented lock screen that gives easier admission to the camera, Japanese support for Siri – as previously rumored - and two more new features that have yet to be exposed.

iOS 5.0.1 Is In The Air

Not long since iPhone 4S has been released, some users have experienced problems  with the battery life. Apple has confirmed that battery performance actually has a few problems and they’d release a software update as a solution in a few weeks.

Finally,  the iOS 5.0.1 update has been released, bringing fixes to iPhone 4S battery life. Apple says that the update fixes problems with Documents in the Cloud and improves voice recognition as well, which had problems  also.

For the first time, you can update your device without connecting it to your computer. It is very simple, go to Settings > General > Software Update, and then tap the Download and Install button.

iOS 5 Battery Problems

Not long since iPhone4S has been released, and some users already complain about the battery performance, asking for some assistance by installing a monitoring program. Fortunately the problem concerned only some users, not for all. The trouble is not affecting just the iPhone 4S, but any other IOS5 devices as well.

According to the specs , the iPhone 4S is supposed to get 200 hours of standby mode but now it actually gets 8 hours only.

Apple has confirmed that battery performance actually have  a few problems after upgrading to IOS5.

Statement released by Apple on Wednesday says: “We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

Apple has not offered any advice on what customers should do until the software update is released. The fact is that having too many GPS-based location services turned on may cause the phone to lose battery life fast. Another possible culprit is the new Notification system in IOS5. Forums contain various potential fixes, there may be hope, that my help.

The calendar bug - disable the calendar app within the Notifications center;

The Time Zone bug - go into Settings > Location Services > System Services > Setting Time Zone, and toggle off the location services;

Location services - Head into Settings > Location Services and browse through the various apps. The option to turn it off which is there for no reason.

SIRI – it uses up a lot of processing power

Then of course: you should turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, turn down screen brightness, etc.

The truth is that it’s not magical solution to this problem; you should wait until software update is released.

Great Expectation of iPhone5

It’s no doubt that so much-awaited iPhone5 is coming, after Apple has announced a media event with the slogan “Let’s Talk iPhone” on October 4th. The huge buzz is surrounding the next generation smartphone by Apple, the rumors are uncontrollable, one and all ant to guess what an iPhone5 will look like. Here are some features that we all expect from iPhone5 to bring:

A Brand New Design- this is the most discussed topic of all! However, numerous pictures of new iPhone cases have been released, which in no way could hold the previous versions of the iPhone. Faster Performance- Microsoft released Mango update, Samsung is striving for better performance… So to keep up with competitors, Apple most likely will be upgrading the RAM on the iPhone 5. Faster and smoother performance- this is what we all would like to get!

Better Camera- iPhone4 has been introduced with the increased camera capabilities, so logically, it’s expected that iPhone5 camera should be even further sophisticated! Many experts believe the screen will be larger, the camera will be 8 megapixels instead of 5, and the iPhone5 will allow for full 1080p recording!

More Carriers- Apple has gradually been outspreading its’ reach to new carriers. There is some rumor that Apple will comprise new carriers for the iPhone 5. Some rumors have specified T-Mobile will be included, especially with AT&T trying to buy them. Sprint will likely be presenting the iPhone 5 with an limitless data plan, which AT&T / Verizon no longer offer.

Apple To Definitely Announce iPhone5 In October

Apple‘s fresh CEO, Tim Cook, will hold a huge media event Oct. 4 to reveal the iPhone 5, All Things Digital bangs mentioning sources “familiar with the matter”.

If accurate, the presentation date of the next generation iPhone is steady with the recent wave of gossips demanding it will be released early in October.

According to the report, the sources claim that Cook will lead over the announcement — with the help of other key executives such as Phil Schiller, who contributed in such events previously as well — which would give this event even more importance. Cook must convince the shareholders, the viewers and Apple fans all over the world that he can sure-handedly take over the role of Apple CEO and company showman. This will be his first keynote as the CEO and the expectations for that particular job are, simply put, enormous.

It is not known whether Steve Jobs, who resigned from the role of Apple CEO in August, will be present at the event.

iPhone5 Leaked Design Details

Take your first look at a screen protector that has been designed for the iPhone5, it shows off the stretched home button seen in the leaked design document.

While we've seen countless claimed iPhone 5 case designs in the past, none had shown the front of the device. The elongated home button area design, however, was shown in leaked design documents. The plan documents only show areas that need to be unprotected or open to the user, so it doesn't mean the physical home button will inevitably adopt the exact shape. 

The hole for the front facing camera has been included in the elongated hole for the speaker as seen in this image. There's been some suspicions raised lately about what shape the iPhone 5 might actually take. Despite all these case designs emerging from China, we should remind you that all these cases have been obtained from a shared leaked design document. So, there's been little extra confirmation that this is an accurate image of what the iPhone 5 will look like. We've also seen no actual part leaks related to this theatrical restructure. 

The only part leaks we've seen come from an iPhone 4-like N94 design. Apple is widely expected to release the iPhone 5 in September/October.

iPhone5- Stronger Demand Expected

According to a survey conducted recently among 2,200 potential cellphone buyers, it turned out that more people are likely to buy the iPhone5 than were ready to put their money down for an iPhone4 before that was launched.

The Research shows that 31% of users who are presently shopping for a new phone regard it as “very likely” (13%) or “somewhat likely” (18%) they will end up with an iPhone 5 in their hands. Compare that with the numbers for the iPhone 4 — 12% and 13% respectively — and what you have is a level of “bottled” demand that is exceptional in surveys like this.

Of course, that’s basically a function of the fact that we’ve had to wait so long for the iPhone 5. Its forerunner is nearly 15 months old at this stage; that’s a lifetime in cellphone years. Some 66% of current iPhone owners say they plan to upgrade to the new model, sight invisible. That includes a whole lot of iPhone 3GS users, who opted to skip a generation.

There’s also some fascinating news for the survey: Fully 54% of their subscribers say they are “significantly likely” or “somewhat more likely” to buy the iPhone 5, which reports suggest will be launched on Sprint complete with an unlimited data plan, of the kind that AT&T and Verizon no longer offer. But if current iPhone usage is any indication, the amount of bandwidth those customers will suck up may be more than Sprint can cost-effectively afford…

iPhone5 Smaller Than Expected?

Some new pictures of the iPhone 4 and iPod touch practically drowning in the now-famous iPhone 5 cases have been posed recently, pointing toward a thinner and wider design revamp. iPhone5 seems to be significantly smaller than we thought…

The designers used iPhone 5 cases leaked Apple design document as their lodestar and the effect shows- a tapered design and a notably thinner body. Nevertheless, according to the renderings, the phone itself ought to be 4.33" x 2.36", shorter but a little wider than the current iPhone4. When they measured the cases, they found it to be designed for a phone around 4.7" x 2.6", with some room for error. These cases seem to be a bit larger…

Cheaper iCloud-Based iPhone?

The Apple rumor spread on Thursday is that the corporation will outline a low-cost iPhone 4 together with the iPhone 5. The new device will have significantly reduced flash storage, and may be so cheap to make that transporters offer it for free. The name will be not very creative: the iCloud iPhone.

The story seems to be well-sourced — Applenapps.com writer, Sheridan, claims to have verbal communication to three independent sources “who are all connected to Apple in different capacities,” and one of them seems to have given him the scoop on launch date ahead of time. 

Sheridan’s sources say the iCloud iPhone will “look like a small iPad,” and that it will retail for $400 — or no cash at all once you factor in the 2-year contract signup discount. The sources are a little short on particulars of exactly how this will rely on iCloud more than any other iPhone. In iOS5, iCloud will back up your entire phone, counting apps. But is Apple ready for a device that runs completely from the cloud, straight after the launch of the app?

With Android phones now beating iPhones, it wouldn’t be astonishing if Apple required boosting its market share on the low end — and having an iPhone that is free (with contract) would go a long way in the direction of that goal. We’re sure that the advertising genii at 1 Infinite Loop would want to include a catchword like iCloud in the phone’s title, as well as pushing the fact that you have access to your music and photos without actually having to upload them... But a memory-free iPhone seems exceedingly unlikely.

Apple Makes Jailbreaking More Challenging On IOS 5

When Apple announces the release of iOS 5 late this fall, consumers who’d like to jailbreak their devices might find the process more difficult than natural.

While examining the code for iOS 5 beta 2, the members of the iPhone Dev Team revealed Apple is putting actions into place to make it more challenging for iOS 5 users to rollback to previous versions of iOS.

It isn’t unusual for more progressive users to want to try out the latest non-jailbroken software and then revert back to a former version so that they can benefit from their jailbroken features. The recent workaround is for customers to back up their SHSH blobs before upgrading the software. This guarantees that an older version of the OS and firmware can be restored later.

With iOS 5, Apple is shifting the way that the blobs are created. The blobs will be renovated every time a device is rebooted, meaning that solely having an old version of the key won’t permit users to install an older version of the software.

While this doesn’t avert groups like the iPhone Dev Team from finding deeds and making tools available so that users can jailbreak their pieces of technology, it might make maintaining a device in a jailbroken state more difficult.

With iOS 5, Apple will also be viewing doing over-the-air OS advancements, meaning that the software can upgrade itself without needing to connect with iTunes. In principle, this means that Apple could push out small updates to cover exploits, avoiding a user who has agreed to install said update from jailbreaking their device.
