Implications Siri May Cause – Be Aware

Siri has made life of millions a lot easier, and iPhones are now more convenient than ever with iOS5— but they also leave you open to everything from pranks to data loss you may not think of. Below you’ll find several examples on how Siri can drag you into extremely embarrassing or simply undesirable situations.

We all know that Siri is activated by holding down the Home button, but have you ever thought that it also deactivates the Passcode Lock? Although this brilliant personal assistant is restricted to delete contacts or search the web without the lock code being entered, Siri can still perform number of tasks such as calling your contacts or delete your alarms. What we want by this to say is that everyone passing by is enabled to get access to your contacts private data by just knowing the contact’s name, or moreover, just knowing the relationship status between you, by simply asking questions about your “boss”, “sister” or “mom” to get the data. One more hazardous thing is that anyone can prank you by telling Siri to call you some funny or rude name and may embarrass you when you expect it least.

To avoid appearing in such a situation, you can simply go to Settings> General> Passcode Lock and flip the Siri toggle to Off. But note that if you disable Siri’s passcode bypass, the speed and the ease of access to this unique feature will be decreased as you won’t be able to just hold a button and start talking to have Siri perform something for you, for instance when you’re driving.

One more threat enclosed to Siri is that sharing iPhone 4S contacts also shares Siri relationships you have set. To be more concrete, this means that when you send a contact via your iPhone 4S built in sharing, you send not just a name and a phone number, but EVERYTHING in that contact, including the relationships set up by Siri. To be even more concrete, this means that you may share what you call your girlfriend or a rude nickname you called your boss while you were angry… You may call it a bug or just inattentiveness, but there is no solution to prevent this, but to either text or manually send your contacts. Let’s hope that Apple constrains card sharing to common fields in an upcoming iOS update. But till then, if you do care for privacy, you need to think twice before sharing an entire contact card to avoid future implications…

Keep Playing…

Have you ever thought how addictive smartphone game applications influences on your brain?  Keep playing… it may be good for your brain.

A new study from the Archives of Neurology says that one who plays brain stimulating games might have improved memory and delay/prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Traditional brain games are scientifically designed to boost cognitive activity and enhance memory as well.

The market for mobile brain gaming applications is booming. For example, Lumosity, which is one of the top creators of brain-training exercises and applications for web and mobile, raised $32.5 million for its brain training applications in 2011.

Scientists found that many games requires focus – including Angry birds, which is the most popular application – give the brain a healthy workout. According to scientists, playing games, reading and writing might cause the memory loss disease.

Maybe you even hear about Kathleen Connell of the UK, who is one hundred-year-old and is the perfect example who spends a couple hours per day playing brain games to keep her mind young. Connell’s favorite applications are Art Academy, Brain Trainer, Scrabble and Family Fortunes… Brain Trainer calculated her mental age at 64! As he says “If there’s any secret to a long life it’s to think positive and keep your mind active.”

If the study and Connell’s advice are true you should be happy – because it seems that your favorite activity is useful for your healthy! That is the happiness.

Tips for Great iPhone Photos

You perhaps don't take your DSLR camera with you all along, but your iDevice—along with its built-in camera—is in your pocket far and wide you go. That's why lately the most common way to upload photos to Flickr isn't a camera at all, but the iPhone. As iOS5 offers great photo capabilities, the topic is becoming more actual.

The encounter, for sure, is accomplishing great-looking photos from a gadget principally designed for chatting. If you take a notice of a few tips in mind, you can capture some pretty sharp pictures with your iPhone. We have previously reported some great iPhone photos, you can see the post right here.  Here is what you should consider:

Your phone can handle a lot of situations with aplomb, but it can't shoot every scene you meet. The teeny-weeny image sensor craves light, and does best outdoors, in daylight. For the best experience, follow the same advice that photographers have kept in mind for decades- just let the sun shine in!

Let daylight help your photography. Try to put the sun behind you or over one of your shoulders. Avoid capturing straight into the sun, or you'll radically underexpose your focus. If you're shooting inside, put your back to the window and turn on the lights.

Knowing right settings is not enough for a good photo- you should be able to compose the scene while shooting- that’s what the pros do. Just split your frame into thirds. After dividing conjure up a tic-tac-toe board—and put your focus on one of those lines, rather than in the middle of the screen- that’s somewhat banal. But be careful here- keep in mind that nothing ruins a photo like a skewed horizon. Keep an eye on the background to ensure that nothing is "rising" out of the top of someone's head.

Run the camera quicker- optimize your home screen so you can start capturing with a single tap. This ensures that you avoid losing out on many great photo opportunities. Fortunately, iPhones allow moving your camera into more convenient location of your screen. You can either apply to have camera on the first screen, or put it in the quick-access area at the bottom of the screen. You can even resign buttons to launch your camera faster.

The most common reason you keep getting get blurry photos with your phone is that it's light and thin, and awkward to hold compared with a full-size camera. So the solution is to keep the phone steady while capturing. Grip the phone as motionless as you can, with both hands, and keep your elbows put in to your sides for sustenance.

To be continued….

How to Care for Your iPhone

For most of us, our iPhone is a very essential part of our life. It keeps us linked to our business, our family and our friends. It isn’t just a phone. If something happens to our phone to render it unreachable, we go into panic mode. Here are ten ways to care for your iPhone to retain it safe and functioning properly.

1. Don’t leave it in your car. Cars are not a good place to leave your iPhone, even for short periods of time. Temperature limits of hot and cold can damage your device. Hot temperatures can particularly be magnified inside of a vehicle.

2. Avoid high moisture areas. Bathrooms, enclosed swimming pools and other high damp areas can cause water damage to cellphones much faster than you might recognize. Leave your cellphone behind when you enter these kinds of areas where the air is thick with moisture.

3. Drying it out. If your iPhone should get unprotected to moisture, take the back off and remove the battery as soon as possible. To captivate the moisture, place the phone in a container of uncooked rice. Immerse the phone totally in the rice and seal the container. If no rice is available, let the phone air dry for a day before trying to operate it again.

4. Use display protectors. The surface of your iPhone can easily become scratched and marred- you should already have learned it from one of our posts. Guard it with transparent film protection sheets. Change the sheet every few months. You can even bring your phone into your local cellphone carrier and have it renewed for you.

5. Keep it in a hard case. Purchasing a hard case to snap your iPhone into is a wise investment. The case will take the punishment of abuse instead of the phone itself.

6. Car chargers. Car chargers are a great convenience, but they shouldn’t be your primary charger. You should also disconnect your iPhone from the car charger when you are starting or shutting off the car to avoid injuring it with power surges.

7. Battery indicator. At times cellphones will appear to be losing their charge more rapidly than normal, when, in reality, it is the battery life pointer just giving a false alarm. To spot on this situation, let your phone battery to go thorough dead before recharging. After doing this a couple of times, the indicator should be reset and start action correctly again.

8. Don’t overload. Your iPhone is a mini-storage device and has a restricted amount of memory. If you find your browser or apps freezing, you may be reaching your memory limits. If there are apps that you don’t use, removing them from your iPhone on a regular basis can free up more memory.

9. Don’t overcharge. It is suggested that you remove your phone from the charger once it reaches a full charge, or else shut the phone down when charging the phone. Leaving a fully charged phone plugged into the charger and turned on can lead to overheating.

10. Be aware of placement. Many iPhones are injured because of being set down on a hood or roof of an automobile, and then forgetting it there when the owner drives away. An iPhone moving loosely in a handbag is also subject to ‘battering’ by other items in the bag. Keeping your device in a separate pocket of a handbag is much favored.

Maybe you’ve already experienced any of the situations listed above. We all agree that it is simply a common sense, but most of us find it hard to learn from others’ mistakes, unless they suffer all on their own...

For your consideration…

iPhones, as well as everything in nature, are not perfect as it may seem at first glance. And as everything in nature, it needs support and prevention as well. Since its release in 2007, iPhone users have experienced many problems concerning connectivity issues or "missing" functions. So, here are some FIPs (Frequently Incurred Problems) that the users of Apple iPhones of all generations, mostly come across with.

  • Front Glass/ Touchscreen Blemish

The boldest problem of all- even if you happen to drop your iPhone, the screen is cracked, while the phone works normally, as before. You can feel the scratch with your finger, it hinders you while watching videos or viewing images, or simply, you get tired looking at it. Fortunately, there are number of companies providing solution of this problem and replace the front glass/touch sensor/digitizer assembly completely, but still, try to be more careful with this gentle part of your beloved iPhone.
Another outcome of dropping your iPhone may be LCD damage, which is expressed by a big blotch on your phone screen, preventing to see what’s displayed behind. Most often it looks like an ink-splotch. In the best case, you may see some fractions of viewable area at the top of the screen. Solution from this situation is one – LCD replacement.
  • Battery Replacement
Complaints about the batteries mostly concern the longevity of the time, it needs to be charged. For your luck, the replacement of your battery with an exact OEM is possible and widely used practice that saves your time.
  • Vibrate Switch/Headphone Jack/Power Button replacement
Very often, when silent mode is activated, your iPhone starts acting strangely, making inadequate vibrant of switches to loud mode spontaneously. This is the feebleness of the circuit that unites volume buttons, headphone jack, and power/sleep button. Luckily, the repair and the change of the circuit (if necessary), is possible, for you to get back in control of the sound and vibrations your iPhone makes. The headphone jack is also the weak spot that needs gentle treatment. The fixes of this feature is also easily available, so you can listen to your favorite songs again, without replacing your iPhone with some other devices.

Moreover, concerns with home button, docking charger or data recovery are commonly problematic for iPhone users. Unfortunately most of you may not be able to solve these problems alone, but don’t worry, there are plenty of service providers, dealing with this kind of fixes. Now the biggest problem for Apple is considered to be the last release, iPhone 4, that is not incompatible with older iOS devices.

How to make your iPhone battery last long?

A battery for our iPhone can be considered as a driving engine – a heart which has to be taken care of and protected properly.  Moreover if your iPhone has some problems with its batteries it can cost you enough much money and still it’s not so obvious if it can be subject to repair.  Besides we should take into consideration that a lithium-ion battery is of an outstanding quality and with sensitive and proper care it may serve for several years.

Consequently as soon as you start taking care of you iPhone battery it will serve you longer and better.

·         The first and foremost is to avoid your iPhone from dropping. This is the most common rule which is known for everyone but is often ignored and disregarded.

·         Let the battery fully discharge and fully charge at least once a month. Thus the buttery keeps the electrons in the lithium-ion battery moving.

·         Avoid keeping your battery in the humid environment as well as in the places of high temperature as heat destroys the ability of ionization in the lithium-ion battery. Room temperature is the best for your iPhone to keep in.

·         Wireless connectivity as well as Bluetooth has similar battery usage so you should keep these features turned off while not using them.

·         Try not to charge your iPhones with vehicles or after market chargers.  They are not accurate in charging. Taking into account that lithium-ion batteries are designed to be charged at an exact charge rate and voltage, these chargers will also be likely to damage them.

Yet this is not a full list of rules that have to be fallowed but quite enough to ensure long life for the battery and thus the iPhone itself.
